Privacy Policy
Lastslate keeps your scripts on your computer. Cloud backup is off until you turn it on; the AI runs only when you start a question or run a check, and you can turn it off for one script or for good. This page says, in plain words, what leaves your computer and why.
1. Who this policy is from
"Lastslate" is an application for macOS and Windows published by Uniqlabs LLC
("Uniqlabs", "the company"). This policy describes how Uniqlabs handles
personal information collected by the Lastslate desktop app, the marketing
website at lastslate.com, and any related paid services.
2. The short version
- Your scripts stay on your computer. The app works with files on your own computer. Your script's text is never uploaded unless you turn on cloud backup or ask the AI about it.
- Cloud backup is off until you turn it on. Any signed-in user (Free or Pro) can use it. Files are encrypted on the way up and while stored.
- AI is yours to switch on, and off. It is available on Free and Pro, with different limits. When you ask the AI something, your question and your script go to the AI provider; with AI on, the app may also send the script ahead of your first question so the answer comes back fast. One switch turns every AI feature off for the whole computer, and any script can be marked "covered work" so nothing from it is ever sent. The AI policy lists exactly what leaves your computer and when. Each script keeps an AI involvement ledger of when its AI features ran, kept on your computer and in your Lastslate account; it never holds your text.
- No AI training on your work. Uniqlabs does not use your scripts, questions, or the AI's answers to train any AI model, and our contracts with AI providers forbid them from doing so.
- The app never tracks you for ads. The desktop app has no advertising trackers or marketing cookies, and your writing is never used for advertising. The website uses one ad-measurement pixel to count visits and downloads that come from our own ads. Section 4 describes it, and it honors Global Privacy Control.
- Anonymous usage counts, never your words. The desktop app sends anonymous usage counts and crash reports so we can fix bugs and see which features get used. It never sends your screenplay text, titles, or file names. You can turn it off in Settings.
3. What the desktop app collects
3.1 Local-only data (never leaves your computer)
Open documents, version history, recent-files list, preferences, sprint stats, and any unsaved drafts are kept on your local disk under your user account. Uniqlabs has no access to these unless you opt into cloud backup.
3.2 Account & subscription (only if you sign in)
To sign in (required for cloud features and to activate Pro), you provide an email address. The company stores: your email, hashed authentication credentials, the active tier, the current billing period for Pro, and the account copy of each script's AI involvement ledger (section 3.4). Payment is processed by a third-party payment processor — Uniqlabs does not see or store full card numbers.
3.3 Cloud backup (Free and Pro)
When you enable backup for a project, that project's files and version history are uploaded to encrypted storage. Files are encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest. Backup runs in the background; you can disable it per project at any time.
3.4 AI features (Free and Pro)
Lastslate's AI runs on models from Anthropic, through Uniqlabs's commercial API account. When you ask the collaborator a question, run a continuity check, or use a slash command, the following is sent to Anthropic to answer that request: your script (and the lines you selected, if you selected any), your question, the conversation so far, the names of your drafts and which scene you're in, anything you attach with @ (a scene, a character, another draft, your notes), and another draft of the same script if the AI opens it to answer. With AI on, the app may also send the script ahead of your first question to warm the cache. Anthropic holds that text only briefly: up to an hour in its prompt cache, so follow-up questions are fast. Nothing is sent from a draft you have marked as covered work, even when you ask from another draft of the same script, or from any script while AI features are switched off in Settings → General → Privacy. The AI policy has the full table.
Your chat history is stored on your computer only; Uniqlabs's server keeps usage metadata for each request (token counts, model, cost, and which feature ran), never the question, the script, or the answer. If you click Report a problem on an answer, that question, answer, and your note — which may quote lines from your script — are sent to Uniqlabs so the problem can be fixed. Reports have no automatic deletion date yet: they are kept until Uniqlabs deletes them or you close your account (which deletes them), and you can ask for yours to be deleted at any time.
Each script also keeps an AI involvement ledger: one row per AI run saying which feature ran, when, whether Lastslate's AI or your own key answered, what kind of context left your computer (the full script, one scene, a passage, or nothing), and how it ended. The ledger is kept on your computer and mirrored to your Lastslate account, so a renamed file, a reinstall, or a new computer cannot lose the record you may have to hand to an employer, a contest, or the Copyright Office. This cannot be turned off. When Lastslate's AI answers, the server records the request as well, with the same fields. On a script shared through Lastslate, those rows are tagged to the shared script, and its owner and editors can export one statement covering every writer on it, so the other writers can see when you used AI there, never what you asked. It never contains your text, your question, the answer, a title, or a file name, and the account copy is removed when you close your account. Rows on scripts other writers shared with you are the one exception: they stay, with your name and account removed, so those writers' statements stay complete. The AI policy describes the statement Lastslate builds from it.
3.5 Anonymous usage analytics & crash reports
To understand which features writers actually use and to catch crashes, the app sends anonymous product-analytics events and crash diagnostics. These are tied to a random device identifier generated on first launch — not your name or email — and, if you are signed in, to your pseudonymous account ID so the company can measure things like activation and upgrade rates. They include:
- Usage events — actions such as opening or creating a script, exporting, running a writing sprint, or invoking an AI action, recorded as counts and short labels (for example, an export format of
pdf), along with basic app context (app version, operating system, platform). - Crash & error diagnostics — stack traces and technical context when something goes wrong, so the company can fix it.
4. What the website collects
The marketing site at lastslate.com is a static page served
via Cloudflare. Cloudflare logs request metadata (IP address, user agent,
timestamp) for abuse prevention and rate limiting; those logs are kept by
Cloudflare under their privacy terms.
4.1 Ad measurement on the website
To know whether the ads we run are working, some pages of the website load an ad-measurement pixel from OpenAI. It records that a page was viewed, which sections of the page you reached (such as features or pricing), whether you read an article, which download or plan buttons you clicked, or that a contact form, download-link request, student verification, or billing flow completed — along with the request metadata any web request carries (IP address, user agent). That is the full list. It is not connected to Lastslate accounts, and nothing you write in the app ever touches it.
4.2 The download-link form
If you are browsing on a device that can't run Lastslate and ask us to email you the download link for your computer, we store the email address you enter — along with which ad campaign brought you, if any — and use it to send that one email. Submitting the form does not create a Lastslate account, and the address is never sent to the ad-measurement pixel; the pixel only records that the form completed.
- Scope: the marketing website only. The desktop app loads no advertising code of any kind.
- No identity matching: we do not send names, email addresses, or hashed versions of them to the pixel.
- Your signal is honored: if your browser sends Global Privacy Control, the pixel is told not to track and no measurement events are sent.
5. Third parties
The company shares data with a small set of subprocessors, only as needed to operate the service:
- Hosting & CDN — Cloudflare (website and edge for the app's API).
- Authentication & backup storage — Supabase (account records, encrypted project backups).
- Payments — the third-party payment processor disclosed at checkout.
- AI provider — Anthropic, used only when you invoke an AI action (or, with AI on, to warm the cache for a script); its commercial terms prohibit training on customer content. If you bring your own key, the vendor you chose takes this role under its own terms.
- Product analytics — PostHog, for anonymous, aggregated usage events. Configured with IP-based geolocation disabled and to never receive screenplay content.
- Crash & error reporting — Sentry, for crash and error diagnostics. Configured to never receive screenplay content.
- Ad measurement — OpenAI, on the marketing website only, limited to the page-view and download events described in section 4.1. Never loaded in the desktop app.
Uniqlabs does not sell personal information and does not use your account data or your writing to build advertising audiences. Sharing with advertising platforms is limited to the website measurement events described in section 4.1.
6. How long things are kept
- Local files — for as long as you keep them on your computer.
- Account records — for the life of the account, plus a short retention window after deletion for billing reconciliation.
- Cloud backups — until you delete the project, cancel backup for that project, or close your account.
- AI request logs — short-lived at Anthropic, retained briefly for abuse prevention and debugging; not used for training. Uniqlabs keeps usage metadata (token counts, model, cost, feature) and the account copy of the AI involvement ledger, below.
- AI problem reports — no automatic deletion date yet. Kept until Uniqlabs deletes them or you close your account, which deletes them; deleted sooner if you ask.
- Chat history — on your computer only, for as long as you keep it.
- AI involvement ledger — on your computer for as long as you keep it, and in your Lastslate account until you close the account, which removes the account copy. Rows on scripts other writers shared with you stay after that, with your name and account removed.
7. Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information Uniqlabs holds about you. You can export your scripts at any time from inside the app — they are already files on your disk. To close your account and erase server-side data, email the address below.
Residents of California (CCPA/CPRA), the EEA/UK (GDPR), and similar jurisdictions have additional rights including data portability and the right to object to certain processing. The company honors verified requests regardless of where you live.
8. Children
Lastslate is not directed at children under 13, and Uniqlabs does not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a minor has provided personal information, please contact the company so it can be removed.
9. Changes to this policy
Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and where appropriate, an in-app or email notice before the change takes effect.
10. Contact
Questions, requests, or notices about this policy can be sent to [email protected]. Postal mail can be addressed to Uniqlabs LLC.
