Keep the editor you already write in.
Companion Mode is a small Lastslate window that sits next to Final Draft, or whatever you write in. Open your script in it once and keep writing where you always do. Every time you save, Lastslate reads the new version, so you can ask it anything about the script and it answers with the scene numbers to check. It can’t change a word of what you wrote.

Set it up once, then forget it’s there
- 1 Open your script in Companion Mode. It can be a Final Draft, Fade In, or Highland file, a Fountain file, plain text, or a PDF.
- 2 Keep writing in your own editor. When you save, Lastslate notices and tells you what changed: “Script updated · Scenes 33 and 34 changed.”
- 3 Ask it anything. Pacing, a character who feels thin, a scene that isn’t landing. It points you at the scenes to look at. It never writes the fix for you.
It can’t touch your script
Companion Mode only reads. It has no editor, no pages, no drafts of its own, just the conversation. Your script stays exactly as your own program left it, and nothing you write is ever used to train an AI model.
Ask about a passage without retyping it
Select a line or a scene in your editor and press ⌥⌘L on a Mac or Ctrl+Shift+L on Windows. The passage lands in the conversation, ready for your question.
Tuck it away when you need the room
One click shrinks the window to a small pill that floats over your editor. It keeps reading as you save. Click the pill to bring the conversation back.
Works with the editor you have
Final Draft, Fade In, Highland, Slugline, or anything that saves plain text or Fountain. There’s nothing to install inside your editor. Switch scripts with one shortcut, and each script keeps its own conversation.
